April 2012 Homosassa Fishing Report
OH BOY, what a weekend; even though the wind was blowing 20 knots most of the weekend the fish were still bighting like crazy, if you knew where to look. The reds were bighting top waters in the evenings around the creek mouths and protected bars, basically wherever the wind wasn’t blowing. When the wind dies down, look for the reds and big trout on the outer islands around ozello and mason creek, a good search bait is a good old fashion spoon. On one of my charters this past weekend, we got some nice inshore grouper (which we released of course:) and tons of trout with a few sea bass thrown in. When we get those really strong East Winds along with mid-day low tides you really have to start thinking out side of the box to find the trout and reds, you just have to find deep water and keep trying different baits until you figure out what they will bight. This weekend we did really well on gulp shrimp under popping corks and double jig rigs. We also saw a few nice Cobia while we were catching grouper on the inshore rocks and lost a huge one. Call me and book a trip today if you want to get in on the spring and early summer fishing.
