September 2012 Fishing report
This is the last month of scallop season, we only have until the 22 of this month to go catch those tasty critters, so book a trip soon! The inshore bight is starting to heat up after a couple of slower months, the redfish action is good around the outer islands and the trout are still biting in deeper waters. Offshore is amazing this time of year, on a typical trip we are catching our limit of red and gag grouper and a few dolphin, the red snapper are biting but of course they are cpr only (catch picture release). I have been running to 60-70 feet of water and using a mixture of bucktails, vertical jigs, and live bait to limit out on grouper and trolling mahi rigs (my special rigs) for kings, tuna, and mahi. Right now the red grouper are hanging out around your live bottom spots and the gags are around the bigger rocks and reefs in 55-80 feet of water, use live bait for the gags and dead bait for the reds. When fishing for groupers and snapper don’t forget to use circle hooks! If I could recommend one type of fishing for anyone who has little or no experience, it would be grouper fishing with a professional(like me), because it allows you to figure out what your doing wrong and with my help, most people are able to land many fish, even if it is their first time fishing.
